The word “Tenure,” in respect of land, originated in Norman times as the French word “Tenir,” meaning “to hold.”
“Land Tenure,” means “how land is held.”
Here I speculate on the earliest forms of land tenure in Ireland and trace the history of land tenure from there to the present.
